Merc B. Williams Interview
Q: Introduce yourself to the LMD Readers.
A: My name is Merc B. Williams. I am a comedian/host/writer/speaker based in Jackson, MS by way of my hometown Greenville, MS.
Q: How did you start with stand up comedy? What inspired you?
A: I actually started by taking over for my identical twin brother. He was hosting open mics in both Hattiesburg and Jackson, MS respectively and he had recently just relocated to Memphis. He had some trouble making it back to MS so I offered to take over his gigs for him and just send him the money. All I wanted was the opportunity to gain some experience being on stage doing something other than poetry which I was terrible at. Lol. The rest is pretty much history!
Q: How was it being on Hart of the City?
A: Hart Of The City was honestly an amazing experience. I have long been a fan and admirer of Kevin Hart, PCB(Plastic Cup Boyz) and his entire team so being able to meet him and work with him after only being in the game for a short period of time was a blessing I can’t even begin to put into words. It was really dope to see what goes on behind the scenes of what we see on tv and even more so actually be a part of it. After you have a taste of what that feels like it can’t help but motivate and inspire you to go and grind harder than ever before. It is definitely the highlight of my career so far.
Q: What is next in your comedy career?
A: The next step for me is really just trying to take this and use it as a stepping stone to big- ger, better, and greater things. I’m definitely hitting the road more and traveling to different cities, states and stages trying to become the best version of myself. Like we taped the show in July and it aired in November. I feel like I’ve made enormous strides in my comedy since that time. I’m just trying to get my hands on everything and take advantage of every oppor- tunity. I’ve got a lot of things I’m doing that I can’t let out of the bag just yet so you’ll have to stay tuned to see what next for the Merc B. brand! Lol!
Q: What are your thoughts on current entertainment business in general?
A: I think there is no better time to be a comedian or in entertainment. There are so many different ways to go down these days and you can even be a creator and create opportun- ities for others. I mean it is honestly no excuse not to be successful in some capacity in this genre. Just gotta get out there and do you and let God handle the rest. As long as you do the work he will always but you in and around the people and places to take you to whatever level you aspire to reach.
Q: Top 5 songs in rotation in your car or home?
A: 1. “ God’s Plan” – Drake , 2. “Beneath You” – Iman Omari, 3. “Open Season” – Cavalier, 4. “Do It Again” – Stlndrms, 5. “Walk It Like I Talk It” – Migos
